Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitar player and music artist. She was first within her age bracket to be a member of an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka Shankar is one of India's rising stars in the sitar. She's the daughter of Ravi Shankar and a former student. She was born in 1982 in London. The first few years of her life were spent between London and New Delhi. Her first performance took place on stage in New Delhi when she was thirteen years old. She then moved in Encinitas CA, where she received the High School diploma with honors in 1999. Anouskha even though she is just 17 years old, has had an extremely successful recording and performing career. Her father was with her in many performances for some time. Her debut solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. In 2002, she released her Grammy Nominated Live at Carnegie Hall. She has performed at most major venues around the globe. Anoushka's career goes beyond music. In 2002 she published the book Bapi The of My Life. of My Live this is a picture-based biography, which gives a special honor to her late father Ravi Shankar. In addition, she acted in a film in 2003. She played as a Bharat natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shakar's professional career is only going to continue to expand and grow. We can look at seeing lots of new things from her. Anoushka was raised in England however, she spent the majority of her childhood split between London and Delhi. Then she moved to California and went to high school. In Delhi during his birthday celebrations for his 75th birthday, Anoushka made her debut performing the sitar in front of an audience four years following her nine-year-old father. Accompanying her father as he toured the world Anoushka racked up a wealth of performances at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival as well as recording alongside George Harrison. The House of Commons Shield was given to her by the British Parliament for being the top Asian Arts musician. She is the sole female and is the smallest recipient of this prize.
